NEWS RELEASE

As of February 10, the movie which has been garnering international attention, “RUST” is now shooting up a storm in Kipling! (And shooting through its share of them, as well.) Despite a freak blizzard which piled up more snow than most residents could remember in a single dump, the crew ploughed its way through closed highways in the attempts to make the first day of shooting. Cancelled flights, de-railings into ditches, and massive snow drifts left drivers stuck left and right, but didn’t stop the scheduled first day of principal photography from commencing.

The prior night, after a stream of cancelled flights, Director, Corbin Bernsen, was forced back to Calgary after hovering over Regina; and was only finally able to land the morning of the first day. He then ploughed his way through the treacherous road conditions the final 150 kilometer stretch, to the shock of all who witnessed. Driven by his drive to make the best movie he can, Corbin was also fueled by tight time constraints and tighter budgets. From the grand-scale equipment trucks to the little cars transporting essential key crew members, the filmmakers dug their way out of the trenches to reach their destination, but with time and resources now stretched to their tightest.

Since then, shooting has indicated struggles to be worthwhile. Braving not only the elements, but the challenge of training new talent on a budget at a fraction of even the minimum typical movie-making standards, Kipling has, regardless, seen filmmaking in grand capacities – featuring Hollywood star, Corbin Bernsen, Corner Gas famed, Lorne Cardinal, the latest in “Red Camera” technology (PS Production Services) as well as a fleet of trucks full of top-notch equipment, (William F. White International). Scenes shot so far have thus featured high-caliber recorded drama. Showcasing the rising local talent of Kipling’s inhabitants, this heart-warming story features a minister on the road to recover his faith, returning to his hometown for Christmas in the hopes of rekindling. There, he must also make sense of the aftermath of a tragedy which confronts him upon his arrival; his childhood friend has confessed to the crime of burning down a house which has taken the lives of the family within.

The shooting of the house-burning scene provided some relief from the cold temperatures, but since then, minus 30 degree dips are proving a challenge to the equipment, cast and crew alike. LA Producer, Chris Aronoff acknowledged, “We’ve had to deal with some pretty harsh weather conditions, but thanks to the efforts of the crew and the town of Kipling, not only have we proceeded in making the film, but it’s thriving.”

Due to the generous efforts of the makers, crew, cast, residents of the town, SCN, and SaskFilm, as well as local sponsors: More Than Just Flowers, McMillians, Manns Foods, Seedhawk, Gee Bee Construction, Kipling Fire Department, Bakers Small Engine Repair, and Supreme Oil fields, Kipling residents are seeing their investment in full motion. The town is taking their first step in motion-picture making at full sprint. Planned to take place at the finish line will be the World Premiere in Kipling, to screen after the completion of post production around Christmas time this year.

Anyone interested in appearing in the film or helping to make this endeavor the best representation of your renowned town spirit, feel free to contact our production office at (306) 736-2220. Help in any capacity goes great distances towards success in this unprecedented effort.

A LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

AND ACTION!!!
A LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
OF “RUST” CORBIN BERNSEN

Hello Kipling!

Well at long last we are about to make our movie! I believe “Rust” is a fantastic first movie for Kipling. It has a message of faith and hope and its writing was influenced greatly by your generosity and kind spirit.

You’ll see my team and I in town starting pre production on January 28th and going into production (actual filming) starting on February 10. Almost every scene in the movie will be shot in and around Kipling and Main Street. Actors and Actresses are from Kipling and surrounding area. Our production office will be at the Legion Hall and open on or about February 4.

But the work has only begun. We are the “little train that could,” and we’ll continue to need your help along the way. To that end I’m enclosing a FIRST LIST of needs for the movie.

My hope is to update you at least twice a week for the next month or so in this manner to not only let you know where we are at, but ask for your continued help with items needed for the film AS WELL AS your bodies! That is we need EXTRAS for many, many of the scenes. And yes, that means you’ll be in the movie!

We are set for tons of fun and a GREAT PROJECT! Please join us in the excitement and thank you for this opportunity. I consider it a blessing!

Corbin Bernsen

You can be part of the project !

Dear Community,

Filming IS going to happen in Kipling! You have a chance to be part of the FUN. Imagine being able to tell your grandchildren that you had a part in making a film in Kipling! Check the list below. Decide what you, your family, or your organization may be in a position to donate (or have used at a really low price). The fewer number of items that need to be rented or hired, the more chance there is that the film will be a monetary success. It is the intention of KFP to set up a data base that can be tapped as needed. As you will see, some of the items are solid physical items, while others are more of a service nature.

List of locations:
- Production Office Space – this needs to be large enough for various departments to headquarter. It should have high speed internet connection and phone service.
- Other Locations
o Old church (near an open field)
o Newer church with a cross on top – not necessarily in the country.
o Farmhouse that could be filmed – both exteriors and interiors.
o Old farmhouse that could be burned.
o Jail Facility
o Sheriff’s office
o City building and corridor
o School auditorium
o Exterior of High School Gym
o Interior of High School gym
o Coach’s office
List of equipment:
- Office Equipment – phones, computers, fax machines, heavy duty copy machines.
- Heaters – to be used at various locations during filming.
- Vehicles and Drivers
o Cast and Crew Transportation – several passenger vans.
o Dressing Rooms – 3 to 5 RVs to be used as Cast dressing rooms and on-set production offices.
o Warming Spot – a large bus(es) for crew to warm up in.
o Cube Vans – 3 medium to large to transport gear from and back to Regina.
o Police cars – 2 to 3 to be in the film.
o Truck – a 10 to 15 year old reliable truck for Corbin’s character to use in the film.
o Vintage vehicles – 10 to 15 vehicles from the 1960s for flashback scenes.
o Crane to be used periodically for cameras and for lighting.
- Generators
- Set Decorations – we would ask that everyone in town leave their Christmas decorations up for the January/February filming. More decorations may be needed to make Main Street extra festive.
- Wardrobe – clothing from current era as well as from the 1960s.
List of people:
- General volunteers – duties will be varied and may interest people of all ages.
- Carpenters
- Painters
- Electrician – to access power as needed.
- Crowd Control
- Hockey Players – 2 teams (at this time, Corbin has not indicated the age levels).
- Football Players
- Younger (Little League) Baseball Players for summer shoot.
- Girls’ Basketball Team
- Young Childrens’ Choir – approx. 7 – 12 years old.
- Production Assistants – approximately 5 young people who are willing to be runners for the different departments.
- Someone to be liaison – Corbin needs to have someone who can spend the time that he will be in Kipling making sure that the local people who have said they can help are actually there. This will be in short shots of time, dependent upon what the filming schedule is.
- Catering – usually there are two meals in a day, the first, no matter what time the start is called breakfast, the second called lunch occurring six hours after beginning for the day. The work for this may not all be from one group, but perhaps such that one group does breakfasts, another does lunches or one group takes on three days, another group three days, etc. Flexibility could certainly prevail.
- Craft Services- this is a snack table near the set. This would be responsible for having soup/sandwiches available several times during the day and having coffee, tea, etc. available at all times.

While it is our hope that there will be no need to pay for many of the local needs of the film, credits will be given for the assistance given.

In order to get a data base to fill these needs, it is important that people respond quickly. This can be done by contacting Moose Mountain Central Development Office at Phone 736-8399, Fax 736-8412, or email moose.mtn.centralrdc@sasktel.net . Please contact as soon as possible with your list of items/services. We would appreciate a reply by November 13, 2008. Thanks for being interested. GET INVOLVED! HAVE SOME FUN! MAKE THIS MOVIE A SUCCESS!
